Trump’s speech to Israeli parliament sparked protests, with lawmakers holding signs demanding recognition of a Palestinian state.
On October 13, US President Trump delivered a speech at the Israeli Knesset in Jerusalem. During the speech, two Israeli lawmakers held up protest signs, temporarily interrupting the speech. The two were subsequently removed from the Knesset. One of them held a sign that read “Recognize the State of Palestine.” Upon arriving in Israel that morning, Trump met with the families of detainees and delivered a speech in the Knesset. In his speech, he expressed gratitude to Arab and Islamic nations, crediting them with working together to pressure the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement to release Israeli detainees. After the speech, Trump traveled to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend a summit on a Gaza ceasefire. Hamas and Israel had previously held a new round of ceasefire negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh. According to Cairo News TV, mediating parties including Egypt and Qatar announced that Israel and Hamas had reached agreement on all terms and implementation mechanisms for the first phase of the ceasefire agreement.
