US President Donald Trump once again named Taiwan on Thursday, accusing Taiwan of “stealing the US semiconductor business” and warning that if the relevant business does not return to the US, “we will be very unhappy.” At the same time, there are reports that Trump may ask Taiwan’s semiconductor giant TSMC to assist US company Intel in producing high-end process chips in a joint venture. Analysts point out that this move may not only impact Taiwan’s economic interests, but may also endanger national security. Trump reiterated in a conversation with the media on Thursday local time that all industries, including the semiconductor industry, can be exempted from tariffs as long as they set up factories in the United States. In the conversation, he once again named Taiwan for “stealing our business,” saying that the United States once had very good companies such as Intel, but now, except for South Korea, which has a certain share, almost all chips are produced in Taiwan. Trump emphasized: “We want to get these businesses back, and we hope they will return to the United States. If they don’t bring the business back, we will be very unhappy.”
