Trump calls US church shooting ‘horrific’ after 5 dead and 8 injured
A church shooting in Grand Blanc, Michigan, on the morning of the 28th has left at least four people dead and eight injured. The gunman was also killed in a shootout with police. US President Trump called the shooting “horrific” and called the nation’s “epidemic of gun violence” an “immediate end.” Grand Blanc Police Chief William Reine said at a press conference that evening that hundreds of people were inside the church when the gunman drove into the building and opened fire with an assault rifle. He then set the church ablaze, engulfing it in flames. The fire was intense and billowing with smoke. Police have identified the gunman as a 40-year-old former US Marine. The motive remains under investigation. Local media reported that police had concluded their search and rescue operation inside the church that night, but seven people remain missing and the search will resume tomorrow morning. Trump also said on social media that he had received reports of the “horrific” shooting and that the FBI was leading the investigation. He claimed that the shooting “appears to be another targeted attack on Christians in America” and emphasized in capital letters that “this epidemic of violence in our country must end, now!”
