Thousands protest in London against Trump’s visit
Thousands of protesters, dissatisfied with various US policies, marched in central London on the afternoon of the 17th to protest US President Donald Trump, who was on a state visit to the UK. That same day, Trump met with King Charles III at Windsor Castle. Protesters held signs criticizing US policies on immigration, Gaza, and climate change. Accompanied by horns and drums, the protesters marched from Portland Street to Parliament Square. Reporters at the scene observed a diverse age group, with police deployed heavily to maintain order and temporarily imposing traffic restrictions on major roads.The London Metropolitan Police estimated that approximately 5,000 people participated in the demonstration. Earlier, the Metropolitan Police issued a statement saying that over 1,600 officers were deployed to maintain order and that the event must conclude by 7 p.m. that evening. This is Trump’s second state visit to the UK as US President; he made a state visit in 2019 during his first term as president. Buckingham Palace announced that Trump will meet with Prime Minister Starmer on the 18th.
