Pennsylvania police officers shot, three dead, two injured

A gunman opened fire on five police officers in southern Pennsylvania, killing three and seriously injuring two. The gunman has died. The shooting occurred on September 17 in Codorus Township, York County, southeastern Pennsylvania, as the officers were returning to a previously conducted duty station. “Five law enforcement officers were shot, three of whom died,” Pennsylvania State Police Chief Christopher Paris told reporters, adding that two officers were taken to the hospital in critical condition. “They were here as part of an investigation that began yesterday,” Paris told reporters at a press conference hours after the incident. He declined to provide details, saying only that the investigation was “domestic-related.” At least one local news outlet reported that the officers were attempting to execute a search warrant when the shooting occurred. Paris said the gunman was killed by police. The suspect has not yet been publicly identified, and authorities declined to immediately disclose the law enforcement agencies the officers belonged to. Governor Josh Shapiro went to the hospital to mourn the fallen police officer and said: “This is a tragic and devastating day for York County and all of Pennsylvania.” Shapiro also admitted that he received a call from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and that the Department of Justice was willing to provide all necessary federal support.
