Trump: Will ask Ukraine for ‘anything we can get’
US President Trump said on the 22nd that he would “ask Ukraine for rare earths and oil, anything we (the United States) can get”. Trump said in a speech at a conservative group rally in Maryland that day that he was working to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and to stop the deaths caused by the conflict. “We will ask (Ukraine) for rare earths and oil, anything we can get”. Trump said that under the model of the Biden administration’s assistance to Ukraine, the United States cannot recover its aid to Ukraine. “We got nothing. So we want to take back our money… because it’s not fair, it’s simply not fair”. He said that the United States is currently “very close” to reaching an agreement with Ukraine that would allow the United States to recover its aid to Ukraine. According to media reports, Ukrainian Speaker Stefanchuk said on the 22nd that Ukraine will form an expert group on the 24th to work on a mineral agreement with the United States. A Ukrainian official familiar with the situation reported on the 22nd that as part of the US-Ukraine mineral resources agreement, the US government asked Ukraine for about $500 billion to compensate for the assistance it provided to Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This request has been rejected by Ukraine. Ukraine believes that the actual amount of compensation required is far lower than the US demand, only about US$90 billion.
