The Trump administration has pushed for this legislation on the grounds of national security, but Trump himself said in a recent interview with NBC that he “has a little affection for TikTok” and is willing to give more time, “If it needs to be extended, I am willing to extend it.” Trump emphasized that a group of buyers are ready to pay TikTok owner ByteDance “a lot of money” to purchase TikTok’s US business. He also repeatedly downplayed the risks facing TikTok and said he is still confident that a buyer will be found.
